After almost 60 years, the reconstruction of the tram line in Sarajevo has begun. The railway will be replaced on the route Ilidža-Marijin Dvor, which makes a total of 21.4 kilometers of railway. Funds for the implementation of the railway reconstruction project were provided through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The tender was won by a consortium of Chinese companies China Shandong International Economic & Technical Cooperation Group Ltd. and China Railway No.10 Enginerring Group. and their main contractor is the company Bosman d.o.o. Sarajevo.
The works started on August 27, 2021, on the first section Ilidža-Nedžarići. After 90 days, works on the second section, Nedžarići-Remiza, started. After that, the works will continue towards Marijin Dvor and the entire section in both directions will be completed within 730 days.
